Best Memberships in the Triangle

One of the things we found early on when arriving in the Triangle is how easy and inexpensive it is to get a yearly membership for different activities. These memberships pay for themselves within just a couple visits. For many, we visit at least once a month, if not more, making the membership well worth its while. Here is a list of our favorite memberships. We will try to update the list and offerings regularly.

With the Dinosaur trail, live animals, tree house, spray garden and multiple water features, a train, and even a butterfly house, this membership should be top of your list. Kids and adults alike love this museum and it’s so large you can have a completely different experience with every visit.

From infants to school age, Marbles takes play to the next level. They feature countless opportunities for imaginary play, art, science, building, music, and more. A major bonus of Marbles, aside from the prime, downtown Raleigh location, is the large air-conditioned indoor space. It’s our go-to for those unbearably hot, bitter cold, or rainy days.

A bit of a drive but worth it. This is the largest Natural Habitat Zoo in the US. The animals have enormous natural enclosures allowing for countless opportunities to observe them in their most natural state. Our personal favorite area is North America but that may have something to do with the playground.

One of our favorite things about the Triangle is how close and accessible nature is. Beautiful lakes, camping, kayaking, hiking, beaches. Whatever your mood, you can enjoy it all in just a short drive. The Parks Annual Pass program is worth every penny.

The Art Museum has stunning rotating exhibits, features that even the kids will enjoy, and is surrounded by a giant park featuring natural beauty and sculptures. One of our favorite days is a visit to the museum followed by a picnic in the art park. The children love the water feature at the entrance or the sandbox next to the amphitheater. We can easily spend a full day there.

With locations all over the triangle, it’s easy to find a convenient Y. We love the summer camp options for the kids, classes, and of course the pool. Our nephew would even go once a week for education support during Wake County Public Schools Asynchronous Days.

The Jewish Community Center in Durham offers 2 pools, a fully equipped fitness center, fun classes of all types, a basketball court and more. We also love the countless festivals every year – our personal favorite is the delicious Jewish Foods Festival. And if you’re a fan of babka, this is the absolute best place to order from.
